cabin in the woods

This weekend was a girls' getaway in the middle of the mountains, surrounded by woods and deep snow. Little cell phone service, lots of wine and good food.

Sometimes you just gotta get away from it all.

how was your weekend?

laundry day

it's the simple things.

this weekend, and the past few weekends, when I've done laundry, I've hung it out to dry.

something about sun-dried clothing is better than any detergent smell.

and hanging laundry brings me back to my grandma's backyard, sitting below the lines as she hung sheets. Sometimes she'd let me use the hanging sheets as a tent and I would sit out there for hours, reading and writing, inhaling the scent of clean and cotton.

what I did this weekend: wedding #2

My best friend Betsy got married this weekend at a farm 30 miles north of Seattle.
It was beautiful like all weddings and I cried tears of joy as she walked down the aisle.

What I wanted to share with you is all the handmade and creative touches she added to her wedding.

An antique chest from her great-grandmother was set up at the edge of the reception area.

Guests signed the leaves of a tree on a canvas painting.

She filled a drawer and the metal tub below with the programs

Flowers, a ribbon wrapped letter 'H' and lace

Vintage blue bottles added her color

The centerpieces were a random assortment of rocks, mirrors, wildflowers and lantern

It was beautiful.

(two weddings down-- two to go. I'm in four this summer!)

home sweet home

hi!  I'm hooooooome. :)

While Maui was amazing-can't even put into words-perfection-relaxation there is something about flying in to your home city and recognizing the lights below you, pressing your face against the plane window and imagining your own bed.

Unforunately as excited as I was to get into my bed-- sleep escaped me. We can blame it on two things:
1. the three-hour time difference
2. a pup that was very excited that a certain two people were home

sigh.

and I know, no sympathy that I'm tired because I was in Hawaii.

Hawaii was so good- not only because of the sunshine and the turtles and the fish but because I feel renewed and have so many ideas for my shop and the rest of the summer. I can't wait to share them with you.

But for now, I'm going to leave you with a few things.

1. Giveaway from Life Handmade! Go enter. You'll be glad you did.

2. we are almost at 100 followers people. You know what that means! Seattle-eqsue giveawy. You should be excited. Tell your friends. (or your dog or mom. I'm not picky.)

3. a HUGE thank you to my three guest posters. If you haven't read them, check out the post from Lindsay of Tails to Tell Studio here, the post from Jen of Rellasbellas here and the post from Manda of Elf House Chronicles here
