home tour: office

Wondering where I spend those late nights sewing?
Maybe, maybe not?
After two years of living in this house, I feel like I finally have our two extra rooms-- guest room and office-- put together. And the office only came together recently and now that's clean, I thought I'd give you a little tour.
Or rather, the monster thought he'd give the tour.

gallery wall featuring a mix of prints & photos.
a mix of man things & girly things. a representation of both the husband and me in a room we both share.
meet Jan the Janome sewing machine. She's a beast.
a beautiful encouragement that the husband gave to me back when we were dating.
books! books! books! reading is fun!
some of my favorite prints: get stuff done via mary kate devitte // shh not while i'm crafting via yellow heart art // camera via vol25
umm yeah, my house is awesome enough to have a built-in ironing board. I know you're jealous.
also, vintage thread holder from fawn & flora
where the cutting out magic happens!

one of my favorite parts of the room-- two drawers ($5 at a salvage yard) and French print

I hope you've enjoyed the little tour. Also, I promise you that this room is rarely this clean. In fact, I may have already scattered fabric everywhere. :)

home tour: the turquoise dresser & guest room

some of you have asked what room I've been occasionally taking photos in.

I finally cleaned just so you guys could have a little peek at where I sew (and sometimes take pretty photos.)

Step on in! Do you spot pieces from the paper mama shop and yellow heart art hanging on the wall?

The dresser was a thrift find that my mom painted for me. :)

lamp, frame: TJ Maxx  vases, jar, mini-chest, painted silver mirror: thrifted

Craigslist chair, thrifted mini shelves and suitcases. The trunk is a family heirloom.

On the shelves is my husband's sports collection from childhood -- on the bottom shelf are boxes and binders full of cards. The tops shelves have bobbleheads, figurines and books. The random Barbie is vintage from my Grandma.

bookcase, chest: thrifted  pillows: handmade by me

my sewing area and inspiration board.

The sewing machine is a Janome I got on Craigslist for $40. Which is amazing.

The desk is also a thrifted find, painted by my mom. The pendant light is my mom's design-- she thrifted the frame, then bought a lamp kit and had my dad put it together.

I found the chair on the side of the road and painted it & recovered the cushion.
The white chest holds fabric and was another thrifted find.

I love my print from Mary Kate McDevitt-- my husband got it for me and it's often my mantra cuz I really do love to get things done! (but what I haven't done is find a frame for it...)

The typewriter and vintage cameras were Christmas gifts from my parents-- they found them in an antique shop near my Grandma's house in California.

Could you get the theme from the room? Nearly everything is thrifted or from Craislist. While it takes time to put together a room like this, I love the character and stories behind each piece.

I also can't take a lot of credit for this room. As an interior designer, my mom is a devoted thrift shopper and Craigslist browser and she picks up a lot of great stuff for me. (You can read about her job here.)

I'm not going to lie to you-- I cleaned this room Saturday but I already have fabric strewn everywhere again as I've working hard to add some new stuff to the shop. (I hope you will be as excited about as I am about the new products!)

thanks for stopping by for my little room tour-- you can see more about my house in the tour of my little bedroom here.

where i sleep & other stories

it's a little cleaner in here than normal, so I thought I better share it now. (You never know when those pesky piles of laundry will show up.)

welcome... step up the stairs, my bedroom is an attic nook of a room.

You go up the stairs and see our little Ikea bed topped by cozy Target bedding.

the two small pillows are from france

my milk glass lamp, collections of books

 my jewelry collection

the husband's shelf of sports books and memorabilia

and the husband's shoe collection...he's a marathon runner...

and works as a shoe buyer at a local running store... which is the only way we could afford his collection.

when we bought the house I knew I wanted this room for our room. My mom and I painted the wood-paneled walls white.

It's the smallest room but there's something wonderful about being tucked away in a small attic bedroom. i love it.

what room in your home do you love the most?

before & after: old house edition

My mom doesn't toot her own horn, especially as it comes to her work. I'm taking the liberty of showing off her successes for her-- the restoration of a 100-year-old home that had been completely run down.

the artwork in the bedroom pictured above is one of my favorite parts of the house. The two framed piece above the bed are old paint by number paintings they picked up a thrift shop. I think they add just the right touch of handmade and whimsy,

the best part of my mom's and her business partner's work is that they buy used or vintage furniture and salvaged all they could from the house. The adorable benches in the breakfast nook-- made of old doors from the master bedroom.

there's something incredible about a transformation-- whether it's an old house like this, or a piece of furniture or a piece of vintage fabric into something lovely... the process of something or someone being made new.

Feeling inspired? I know I am. Happy Thursday. :)
